Great Start
MI Kappa has had an excellent start to the year!!
Our chapter room is really taking hold, and the uses are endless. We're now holding all committee, chair, executive board, standards board, and AVC meetings within our chapter room. All composites are hung, and we're finishing our search for furniture to fill in the room. If there's anything you have to donate to the chapter for our room, please contact us!
We are also happy to welcome two new brothers (on the second day of class!), Brother Jarrod Suits '14, and Brother Wayne Breckett '14! Recruitment, lead by brother Tyler Webb, has been fantastic this year. We've already had two successful cookouts, Back to School Bash and Laker Late Night last week where phenomenal along with our strong presence in the fall orientation program, Transitions, Greek Sneak Peak is tonight, IFC hosts Laker Late Night on Friday, and a host of other events! If you're interested in joining or if you have any questions, please e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we'll get back to you as soon as possible and invite you to the house to hang out.
Our executive board has been working exceptionally hard. They've already revamped and revisited the risk management policy, and we now follow FIPG to the letter. We're also increasing our security and safety at our events to ensure that all brothers and friends have a fun, safe experience. Brother Dan Greer and Brother TJ Sobeck have been working exceptionally hard on creating numerous philanthropy events and helping out the community around us. 15 brothers recently helped at the Wyoming 5/10K run, and we're planning to help with future races in the Grand Rapids area. We're also assisting Michigan Blood and the American Cancer Society with their College Cancer Awareness days.
We're expanding our sound minds and bodies by having group football and volleyball sessions, along with forming or Intramural teams for the year; we're working on getting speakers lined up for our chapter meetings, numerous brothers are signing up for Greek Allies and Advocates training through Grand Valley, and we're planning some membership development and understanding workshops for the chapter as well.
Homecoming is right around the corner!! Brothers Jordan Fruchey, Jason Halterman, and Dan Greer have been working with Arend Huisken, Teddy Tidus, and Kyle Barricklow on making the 50th Anniversary of Grand Valley a successful homecoming event for SigEps as well. This is our 27th year on campus and we're hoping for an excellent turnout, with many brothers new and old coming together to reacquaint themselves with the chapter and the organization. For information on homecoming events, times, and the schedule for the day, or for directions, don't hesitate to fill out a contact us form and we'll be ecstatic to send that information to you.
Finally, we want to congratulate Brother Nate Garcia, '12, for all of his hard work, effort, concentration, and personal development that he has achieved over the summer and the past few weeks. Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love flow through him and it shows - he's truly becoming a balanced man for our world's communities, and the chapter recognized him at our first meeting for all of his growth and hard work. Not only has he designed our rush shirts for the fall, but he also designed a standard "SigEp" t-shirt for all brothers to wear, he organized and designed the layout for the chapter room, the new SigEp brochure, and has been working diligently with the Rock Against Rape executive board on designing pamphlets, flyers, t-shirts, and stickers, all amongst maintaining class work and has kept a level head through all this stress and work. We applaud and thank Brother Garcia for once again proving that SigEp is the greatest national fraternity, and that we live not only to our values and ritual, but to our mission statement of "Building Balanced Leaders for the World's Communities"
VDBL,
Brother Halterman

The brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Grand Valley State University are gearing up for another exceptional year! We also want to congratulate the new Lt. District Governor, Brother Ted Titus, MI Kappa '00. That's right! Our esteemed brother and alumnus Ted Titus is the new Lt. District Governor, working with the current district governor, Sam Moschelli and the new regional director, Patrick Murphy, Northeastern '10. Ted will also be working with Ferris State University and Western Michigan University, helping their Alumni and Volunteer Corporations.
MI Kappa also has a lot of great plans for the year. We have our semi-formal planned, with more information to be released at a later date; recruitment is already in full swing with what looks to be another successful balance man scholarship; Dorm Wars are on the horizon as is Battle of the Valley Guys; the food truck is being scheduled for this year again, and our AIDS awareness week is going to blow last year's out of the water with excitement and fund raising! We also have many socials planned for the year with NPC sororities, and we're working diligently to have socials with the NPHC and MGC Fraternities and Sororities.
This year is going to be great! We're all so excited to be coming back to Ottawa Creek Apartments, where the SigEps have taken the D building as their house and have the addition of a chapter room this year. Everything is coming together well and we're looking forward always, improving ourselves and the rest of the Greek community at Grand Valley.
VDBL,
Brother Halterman,
MI Kappa '12
